"Instant" Homemade Oatmeal

1/2 cup quick cooking steel cut oats

1/8 cup oat bran

1/4 cup raisins (or dried fruit)

1/4 cup walnuts (or other nut)

1/8 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon honey

Combine all ingredients plus any other fun flavors or nutrients you want to add to your go jars.

Anything that is naturally preserved like dry goods and honey can be put in the jar and placed aside to use when you're ready. I've added a range of supplements at different times - beta glucan powder, ground flax seed, chia seeds or even hawthorn berry powder. Honey is the only liquid that works well here because it's naturally preserved and won't cause anything to mold or go bad.

You can take this system a step further and use a range of things in go jars. I've set up my drink of a protein powder, ground flax seed, green powder and any powder supplement that I want to add that day. When it's time to drink it I add water, shake and drink immediately before the flax turns to goo. It's a great afternoon boost.

Hmmm - quick cooking noodles and a scoop of miso. Would this make a healthy version of top ramen? I'll try it and let you know.
