What about this latest nutrition fad?
Cory was feeling down - tired, weepy, swollen, hungry all the time... ugh, something's not right. You know the feeling? She had been experimenting with intermittent fasting for cellular health. Intermittent fasting is the newest fad to enjoy food for a limited number of hours in the day. You don't consume less food, just squeeze it into a smaller window so that digestion and cell input has more time to rest.
Understanding how health fads work -
Everything has a positive and a negative - the trick is finding which thing is positive for you.Â
Intermittent fasting - the positive.  Going long periods without food while still eating enough  can help gut function and encourage cell turnover in which cells die to allow more young cells to grow.  If you feel great waiting until noon to eat then it is great!
Intermittent fasting - the negative. Â Restricting food at any time can lower metabolism to cause weight gain. Not eating on a regular basis can stress the adrenals and blood sugar to make you feel tired and depressed. Â Intermittent fasting is dangerous for anyone with a history of an eating disorder. Â Cory can still use nutrition for health, just not this fad.Â
So Cory switched to seared steak strips with tomatoes for breakfast. Suddenly she was bouncing with energy and feeling great. After too much food restriction, steak is great medicine. After she has recovered from restrictive eating Cory can find a more balanced food plan to support her health.
Balanced breakfast to support energy - without restriction.
Black bean & spinach muffin for eggs on the go
Smoked salmon and goat cheese crostini for a lighter breakfast
Chicken rice and kimchee bowl - pack it for lunch and add a bit more chicken to eat early in the day.Â
Have you experimented with changing your food around? What helped you feel better?
Sincerely,Â
